Cerovac Caves ...
The largest cave complex in Croatia

Velebit is extremely rich in speleological structures, but it is still not completely explored
However, the most significant and most widely-known are the Cerovac Caves, located in the southern part of Velebit Nature Park
The Cerovac Caves are the largest cave complex in Croatia. They were discovered during the construction of the railway track from Gračac toward Cerovac, the first small train station towards Knin. The Caves were named after this station.
The Upper Cave is 1200 meters long and the Lower Cave is 2400 meters long. Between these two caves, there is a significantly smaller Middle Cave.
The remains of cave bears, as well as human bones and bronze axes belonging to Pleistocene cave bear hunters have been found throughout the caves, and the walls are rich in cave decorations.
Due to their unique natural beauty and amount of archeological findings, the Cerovac Caves were protected by law as a geological nature monument in 1961.
We offer our guests all information and professionally guided tours in the Upper and/or Lower caves. The caves are open for visitors from April to October. Tours are conducted every hour from 10am to 4pm.
